Cromwell College of IT & Management (CCIM) is committed to support the education and development of the local community.
CCIM runs ESOL, Literacy, Numeracy and Use of ICT courses, aiming to support all those members of the Hackney community who need additional training and encouragement to be able to fully participate in the modern society.
Our English Communication courses (in Literacy and ESOL) target all those adults in Hackney who face difficulties to express themselves in English, can not participate in discussions with others, can’t find job and feel themselves excluded from the society. The English Communication courses improve the literacy skills of our students and provide them with recognition of their achievements within the core curriculum in Adult Literacy and ESOL.
Our Numeracy courses target all those who are unconfident to deal with numbers in everyday life. The courses provide them with an opportunity to improve their skills in application of numbers in a ‘safe’ and friendly environment as well as to get recognition of their achievements within the core curriculum in Adult Numeracy.
Our IT courses target all those who never touched a computer or who want to improve their IT skills in order to get a better job or make a better use of it in their own business. Students are able to choose the area of ICT they want to improve and to get or not their achievements recognised with a diploma or certificate.
All of our basic and key skills courses are based on individual approach and aim to meet the specific individual needs. Our students follow the core curriculum in the subjects from the Adult Learning curriculum but are able to work on their own pace. At the end of the course students receive recognition of their achievements through recognised bodies like OCR, AQA and Trinity College, which examination centre Cromwell College is.
Trying to improve its portfolio of educational courses and to closer meet the students’ expectations and needs, from September 2006 CCIM will commence new specialised courses: Literacy and Numeracy in business context as well as ESOL courses embedded with the new citizenship course material.
All courses are free of charge for the students and are kindly funded by the Learning Trust – the operating body that runs all the education services for the London Borough of Hackney. The target group for the courses are adult learners who are long term unemployed and wish to develop their confidence and skills, adults for whom English is a second language, adults from ethnic minorities, refugees and asylum seekers, adults who want to apply for British citizenship.
KS4 Alternative Provision
As part of its policy to support the local Community, Cromwell College of IT and Management was a KS4 Alternative Provision for the spring and summer term 2005-2006. 30 students, aged 13-16, who were disaffected, not on roll of a school, poor attendees from school, excluded or at risk of exclusion, were placed in CCIM and provided with a relevant programme of academic and recreational activities. Students were preparing and sat for their Key Skills and GCSE exams in the college. |
